Preventive Medicine and Wellness

"Prevention is better than cure.” Every caregiver wants their animal friend to live a long, healthy, happy life. Good nutrition, exercise, judicious use of medications and vaccines, minimizing exposure to toxins, and addressing the environmental enrichment needs for the particular breed are all factors in keeping your pet happy and healthy. We provide nutritional consults on diets and supplements, vaccine titers as an alternative to vaccinations, and wellness assessments based on the Five Element system of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Chronic Illness and Post-Operative Rehab

Chronic, degenerative illnesses are becoming more common as our animal friends live longer lives. Alternative modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and bodywork can help bring the body back into balance, mitigate side effects of pharmaceuticals and conventional cancer treatments, decrease recovery and healing times post-operatively and increase the quality of life and comfort of the patient.

Geriatric Medicine and Hospice

Older animals have their own unique set of age-related conditions. Integrative therapies can make a huge difference in an older pet’s comfort level, often managing symptoms without the use of drugs, or at lower drug dosages to minimize side effects. Mobility can be improved, as well as appetite and overall interest in life. During the last months or weeks of their lives, many animals can be cared for and their health problems managed in the comfort of their own homes . With regular acupuncture treatments, they can move through the end of their lives with grace, comfort and ease.

Hi and Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope that you can take some time to explore, and come back later to learn some more.

I am a licensed veterinarian and have provided holistic house calls to the South Florida pet community for the past 15 years. I have 30 plus years of animal related experience, as well as alternative medicine experience, from my own personal healing journey.

My goal here is to provide you with:

1.) information about my house call practice. If you are local to the South Florida area, hopefully we will get to meet in person.

2.) general information to help you make informed, educated choices regarding the health and well-being of your animal companion

3.) an introduction to a different perspective on healing and wellness for both you and your animal companion

A long time ago, when I was trying to find my way in the world, a teacher appeared and helped me to formulate a mission statement in response to how I would like spend my time and energy, on a daily basis. This is what I came up with:

“to deepen and restore the healthy relationship between human beings, the planet Earth, and the other species we share that planet with”

I chose the field of veterinary medicine as the means to achieve this, and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) is the underlying framework/system that I most closely resonate with and that guides my approach to treatment, whether I am prescribing antibiotics or inserting an acupuncture needle.

I have been blessed to have crossed paths with many teachers over the years, both two-footed, four-footed, and winged, and to them I dedicate any and all of the healing that may come about due to my efforts.

With gratitude,

Dr. Josie Beug
